A Dog Owner Guide

Big Pharma takes over veterinary medicine;

Today, the majority of veterinarians in the United States now practice chemical-based medicine on pets. At the first sign of any health symptom, they slap the animal with a prescription for expensive, patented pharmaceuticals. Arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, cancer and even depression are now being treated with dangerous prescription medications. Earlier this year, the FDA gave approval for Prozac, a powerful mind-altering drug, to be prescribed to dogs, and many of the most common drugs for people are now routinely used in pets (including chemotherapy drugs for cancer treatment). dogs and cats drugged with chemicals for profit

According to the Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI), the organization that recognizes and acknowledges the different type of dog breeds, there are more then four hundred varieties of dogs worldwide. The ones that are unidentified in the United States are often referred to as being of a rare breed.

There are many different variables that determine the breed of a dog. For instance, many dogs come in different sizes. Some breeds are large, others are medium, and others are small as well. Additionally, different breeds vary by their primary and secondary characteristics such as how friendly they are, how active they are, how obedient they are, how loyal they are, how brave they are, and how intelligent they are.

Depending on your personality, some characteristics of dogs may be suitable for you, while others may not depending on your personal preference. Farthermore, many dogs like most that belong to the terrier family have small feeding needs, while other dogs such as the boxer have extremely large feeding needs. Dogs that are smaller will tend to be less expensive to care for then dogs that are bigger and eat more. Also, the type of coats and the amount of tending that it requires is important when choosing a dog. Some dog coats require frequent grooming, while others can go for vast periods of time with little or no grooming.

Dog breeds also vary greatly depending on how sociable they are. Some dogs are exceedingly sociable and friendly and are eager to meet guests who visit one's house. However, on the opposite side, some dogs are very unsociable and will not make it their obligation to greet new guests even if they were rewarded for a snack. Additionally, something that an individual should take into consideration when selecting a dog breed is that certain types of dog breeds can live for shorter or longer periods of time.

For example, other dog breeds such as the Clumber Spaniel have life expectancies that can reach a maximum of twenty one years! On the opposite end, some dog breeds such as the Curly-Coated Retriever have a maximum life expectancy of only two years. The life expectancy of a dog is something that an person should consider if they want the dog to be apart of the family. Little children tend to develop attachments to animals and may have a hard time saying good bye to an animal that was an intricate component of the family for a short period of time.
